Hello.
Today, We will be talking about the Authority Bias 🧙♂️.
What is it?
Your tendency to believe in what an authorative figure says because they “portray” themselves as an expert in the field.
Example -
A lot of TV commercials and Advertisements have some known actor “representing” (also known as selling) a product.
Influencer marketing is also something along the similar lines.
Where does it occur?
Advertisements, Politics and almost all areas of Marketing utilise this bias to make you biased about their business, brand or product.
Why do I need to know?
One integral thing we need to realise is that the actors representing the products are not representing their actual thoughts, virtues about it.
Just because some authorative figure is popular in movies doesn’t mean they will be a good candidate in politics as well.
Takeaways:-
Actors are paid to say whatever the marketing or advertisement firm want them to say.
Understand the marketing behind it. Don’t associate the authorative figure with them.
