Hey,
Today, we are discussing about Bandwagon Effect 🥁.
What is it?
The probability of one person adopting a belief increases based on the number of people who hold that same belief.
Example:-
There is a phenomenon called Groupthink which means that people will agree with others rather put their opinion, forward. This is based on Bandwagon Effect.
Groupthink is the reason why we think meetings are mostly unproductive.
Where does it occur?
In meetings, discussions or places where people are talking about a particular topic.
Do you think the “Cancel Culture” also is one of the victim of it?
Why do I need to know?
Not all the decisions taken in meetings or in groupthink are correct. Just because everyone agrees on 1+1=3, will lead to no one believing if 1+1=2 was even a possibility.
I hope you get the point.
Takeaways:-
Rather than having meetings, Ask for individual opinions.
Be self-aware to notice if groupthinking is occuring in a situation.
