Hey Reader,
How’s it going for you? I have another interesting study to discuss with you.
What is it?
Attachment theory suggests that early interactions with caregivers shape individuals' internal working models of relationships, influencing their perceptions and behaviors in close relationships over time (Bowlby, 1969; Fraley, 2019).
There are two contrasting perspectives on the malleability of attachment styles. One view, treating working models as trait-like, suggests that attachment styles are resistant to change, returning to initial "set points" even after disruptions (Fraley & Brumbaugh, 2004).
Conversely, another perspective sees working models as continually updated based on relational experiences, proposing that significant events could permanently alter attachment representations if they are impactful enough (Davila & Sargent, 2003).
What is YOUR attachment style?
I created a quiz that can help you in finding your attachment style and understanding your relationship dynamics. Try it here!
P.S. This is only for fun. Let me know if you relate with the results from it.
What do I need to know?
As per the key points mentioned in the source:
Key Points
The study examined whether 25 different life events lead to immediate and/or enduring changes in adult attachment styles.
About half of the events were associated with immediate changes in attachment, but only a quarter were associated with enduring changes.
There were significant individual differences, with some people changing more than others following events.
How people construed events was related to whether they showed enduring change in attachment.
