Formal Fallacies
A formal/logical fallacy is a way of reasoning given invalid by a flaw in its logical structure that can neatly be expressed in a standard logic system.
It is present because of an error in the structure of the argument.
ExamplesĀ -
One of the examples is the Affirmation of the consequent, where there is an assumption that the premise is true.
āIf I study hard Iāll get the highest grade, so if I get the highest grade Iāll have studied hard.ā
Informal Fallacies
Informal fallacies are a form of incorrect argument in natural language. The source of the error is not just due to their form, as is the case for formal fallacies, but can also lie in their content and context.
ExamplesĀ -
Faulty Analogy ā This misconception contains the assumption that because two things are the same in one or more. they are the same in another.
While there is a sense of philosophy attached with fallacies, do reply to tell if we should stick with the Psychology-end only OR do understand the bridge with Philosophy!
