Hello Reader,
Today, I want to share a personal insight with you.
I've been on a quest to become multilingual & been learning Japanese for 2+ years.
But I had an epiphany. Let’s dive into it!
What is it?
Despite recognizing words & understanding grammar rules, I found myself struggling to form sentences in real-life situations.
Most apps focus on feeding us new vocabulary and grammar rules, which feels productive but often comes at the expense of true fluency.
What was missing? Practice.
Real, meaningful practice that mimics how we naturally use language.
In Psychology, there are some powerful techniques for that such as:
1. Spaced Repetition: Reviewing learned content at increasing intervals helps cement knowledge in long-term memory.
2. Speaking-Based Exercises: Actively producing language, rather than just recognizing it, is crucial for fluency.
3. Immersive Content Consumption: Watching movies exposes us to natural language use.
This insights sparked an idea.
What if I could create a learning experience that has everything above to it?
What was the outcome?
I'm thrilled to announce Kataru, a mobile app I've been building for some time.
This app focuses on conversational challenges based on real-life scenarios.
Designed to bridge the gap of knowing a language & being able to use it, fluently.
I believe language learning shouldn't just be about accumulating knowledge.
It should be about gaining the confidence to communicate.
That's what Kataru aims to deliver.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this approach.
What do you think about focusing more on practical, conversational skills?
Let me know. Thank you for being part of this journey!
Best regards,
P.S. Don't hesitate to reply to this email with any questions or feedback.
