Hello.
Today, We will be talking about theย Normalcy biasย ๐โโ๏ธ.
What is it?
Our tendency to expect that things will continue to occur in the future the way they have typically occurred in the past (to continue to be โnormalโ), which can lead us to underestimate both the likelihood of a disaster occurring and how bad the disaster is when it does occur. [1]
Exampleย -
Where does it occur?
It has been said in multiple places (although I couldnโt find the real source but let me know your input in the experiment below!),
About 70% of the people are blinded by Normalcy Bias.
From the remaining 30%,
Half of the people freak out
Half of them analyse and does the right thing
Why do I need to know?
Normality or Normalcy bias prevents us from acting to protect ourselves, it is important to know how to overcome it.
Being well-informed is the first step towards your goal. If you have no idea as to what you should do in the event of, say an earthquake, you are more likely to suffer from analysis paralysis, which, in turn, will delay your actions and make you vulnerable.
Takeaways:-
Donโt take things lightly in tough situations.
