Back to Ostrich Effect 🙈,
What is it?
The decision to ignore dangerous and negative information by “burying” our head in the sand, just like an Ostrich does.
Example -
When the economies are crashing, markets are not performing well, A study found that the investors tend to avoid taking much look at their portfolio.
Where does it occur?
It will occur whenever your brain is provided with bad/sad piece of information.
Often the times, You will have attention which will be selective in the context. Selective attention may make you avoid the things which are unfavourable but you should know.
Why do I need to know?
You need to understand that if other countries are having major spikes in cases of Coronavirus but your place has not seen much cases, doesn’t mean you should not wear a mask.
Avoiding is not the answer to a lot of questions. You can skip it now but not forever.
Takeaways:-
Running away from bad things is not an option, right?
This is very similar to Confirmation Bias where we tend to look for things which confirms our pre-exisiting beliefs about information.
Wear a mask and save yourself and your family.
