Hello Reader,
In a recent study, it has been found that our brain has a system to filter out memories that we donโt want.
Ready to dive? ๐
What is it?
By scanning the brains of 24 people actively suppressing a particular memory, the team found a neural circuit that detects, inhibits, and eventually erodes intrusive memories.
The entire process happens below our consciousness, suppressing unwanted memories so that they never surface to awareness. [1]
[Experiment] Do you create goals you wish to complete? And do you ever achieve them?
I would love to know your input & experiences.
What if you could control your thoughts with more psychological awareness? You can with knowledge obtained from your copy of The Psych Handbook :)
What do I need to know?
For now, the study is limited to visual cues. Further ones will have to see if other powerful cuesโlike hearing the voice or smelling the perfume of a deceased loved one.
But for now, weโve found a built-in guardian angel in the brain that can โclear the mind from unwanted thoughts and hasten the demise of memories we would prefer not to have,โ the authors wrote. [1]
